The Big Bang and the Expansion of the Universe

Hubble Deep Field, NASA image Contrary to popular belief, the Big Bang Model of the universe doesn’t explain how our universe came to exist. Rather, this model tells us how the universe has evolved and changed over the last 14 billion years. In this talk, I will describe some of what we know about those changes in our universe and about what the universe was like in the first moments after the Big Bang. I’ll also discuss why we can’t currently figure out what happened before the Big Bang, and what it might take for us to be able to solve that mystery.
