The right-hand column is ones (as it is in any system). The next column is sixteens (since we are in base sixteen). Then, moving to the left, we have 16*16=256, so the next column is two-hundred and fifty-sixes; and finally, 16*256=4096 for our fourth (left-most) column. Therefore,

5*1 + 3*16 + 2*256 + 1*4096 = 4661

So we can say "1235 base sixteen equals 4661 base ten."
